UFC hopeful MAteusz Rebecki doesn’t even need a hook to succeed in Dana White’s Contenders series.
At DWCS 52, Rebecki (16-1) submits to Rodrigo Lidio (12-3) ) passing the back bare choke at 3:05 of the first round. Tuesday’s fight at UFC Apex was one of five.
Rebecki knocked him out mercilessly in the opening bell and made it clear early on that he wanted to drag the fight to the canvas. After Rebecki’s first successful knockout, Lidio got up, but he couldn’t repeat.
Immediately after the second knockout, Rebecki maneuvered to take control of the wing. Lidio turns into Rebecchi while moving. Rebecki grabbed the rear naked choke before Lidio tried to get back to his original position. This gave Rebecki a tight grip on the bare rear choke, but no hook. Basically fighting alongside Lidio, Rebecki squeezed until he got the tap. The unusual submission received visual and audible approval from UFC President Dana White, who was delighted with the conclusion.
The 29-year-old Rebecki was one of the most experienced fighters throughout DWCS Season 6. With the win, he extended his streak to 13. 14 of his 16 career wins are within distance.
