Vince Staples Go to Netflix.
The rapper and artist will title The Vince Staples Show, a movie featuring him life inspired scripted comedy series. Kenya Barris will executive produce the show, which originates from Black ) Creator’s former overall deal with the streaming giant.
The fictional series, set to take place in Long Beach, California, will see Barris and Ian Edelman and Maurice Williams reunite guts. Edelman and Williams will be co-stars of The Vince Staples Show The showrunner, and executive produced alongside Staples, Barris and his Khalabo Ink Society banner, with Edelman, Williams, Corey Smyth and Calmatic directing the first two episodes.
“I am delighted to be partnering with Netflix and Kenya Barris on The Vince Staples Show ,” said Staples. “It’s something I’ve been developing for a while, and I’m glad it’s coming to fruition.”
Tracey Pakosta, head of comedy at Netflix, added: “Our mission is to work with the world’s best Good artist. Vince has established himself as one of the most talented young musicians today, and we are very excited about how his sensibility and sense of humor will translate into a unique comedy series.”
Staples has released five albums and toured with Gorillaz, Mac Miller, A$AP Rocky and Tyler, the Creator, and Childish Gambino, among others. His acting credits include Dope and playing himself in feature films Sprite, MFKZ and Girillaz: reject fake icons. On TV, he appeared as himself on HBO’s Insecure , and Speak for American Dad and Lazor Wulf.
Barris, known for negotiating an early exit from his huge Netflix deal, currently works at Paramount’s BET Studios. He went on to produce
Black-ish spinoff Grown-ish for Freeform Reimagined The Wizard of Oz for multiple outlets for Warner and numerous other projects.
Barris was replaced by CAA, Artists First and Yorn Levine. Staples works with WME, Smith and Blacksmith.
