Introduction
Is it GSMArena fold season or what? It definitely feels like it’s raining, a phone that bends side to side. What we have here is the X Flip, vivo’s first attempt at a clamshell phone. The company is no stranger to bendable phones, in its second generation of phone-turned-tablet designs, but the X Flip is only now joining the likes of the Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr in vying for the hearts of small phone lovers.
There’s one catch though – the X Flip, like the X Fold2 and X Fold, won’t be leaving China. So while we’re happy to have one in our hands for review to see where vivo stands compared to others in the space, the viability of the X Flip as a potential purchase from a Westerner’s perspective is questionable at best of. But we’re going to continue anyway.
The X Flip joins the clamshell class with almost maturity, so it does something right on its first try — for one thing, Samsung Only going to fix these issues for the Z Flip5. The cover reveal is the first of these, a nice 3″ unit, not as big as the Razr 40 Ultra is even the Find N2 Flip, but still much better than Samsung’s current one. Discover the inner display from the start – barely a crease 6.49 inch LTPO OLED with good adaptive refresh rate.
While hardly an industry-leading camera phone — and foldable phones don’t usually come close — vivo’s X Flip has a very promising dual setup that has the potential to be the most flip phone of the entire bunch. OK Hopefully they didn’t screw up the overlay screen implementation – we’ll see.
Last year’s best Snapdragon is in charge, same as Razr
Ultra and Z Flip4, although the upcoming next Galaxy will feature the next Snapdragon – but the X Flip The SD 8+ Gen 1 should be good enough, really. 4, 166 mAh battery sounds better than just “good enough”, While the lack is undeniable, wireless charging is a blemish on an otherwise solid spec sheet. Also missing is any mention of dust and water resistance, making the Galaxy the only Fold that can prove to survive dunking in a can of water.

vivo X Flip Unboxing
Our X Flip came in an oversized silver box, and while it’s similar in luxury to the Find N2 Flip, it’s prettier than the box the Galaxies ship in. Inside, you’ll find a two-piece snap-on cover with a particularly tacky gold perimeter, a 40W adapter and USB-A-to-C cable.
Compared to other products in this field, we call it a standard bundle. We’ll take this opportunity to once again pick out the Galaxy for its barebones cable-only retail package. Vivo (the somewhat related Oppo rival) might get some criticism for its overly bulky presentation, while the Razr 16 The Ultra’s middle-of-the-road approach of packing everything necessary in a reasonably sized box seems the most sensible.
