If you’re as obsessed with red carpet fashion as we are, then you know that Tessa Thompson and Jodie Turner Smith are two of Hollywood’s best-dressed stars this year. With vibrant colours, bold silhouettes and a flair for unconventional gowns, they dominated steps and repetitions – just so happen to share a top stylist .
Conversely, stylist. Behind the looks are the duo Wayman + Micah, who have proven to be the breakout stylists of the year, counting Thompson, Turner-Smith, Keke Palmer, Thuso Mbedu and Tiffany Haddish among their clients.
Los Angeles-based Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald have been bringing a strong point of view and edge to the Hollywood fashion scene. Together, they defied the safe, classic gowns expected of big movie premieres. Instead, they make a statement.

This was on full display at this summer’s Venice Film Festival. Each day, Thompson and Turner-Smith emerge in a more refined ensemble than the next. The duo would have Thompson in a hooded black mesh gown by Interior one day, and a metallic green ruffle by Marc Jacobs the next. Turner-Smith shed her Balmain denim evening gown (yes, really) and transitioned effortlessly into a Christopher John Rogers abstract-print dress with an exaggerated train. Two words came to mind: Fashion Drama !
The duo’s refreshing adventures will stay with you forever. As the duo dressed for Palmer’s Nope press conference this summer, they were drawn to this season’s sculptural silhouettes, including a neon pair with black opera gloves Yellow Prada dress. When designing Mbedu for The Woman King media, they leaned more toward a whimsical princess vibe – a standout example is her appearance at the Academy Museum Gala in October Giambattista Valli look, worn with an embroidered top and bubble tulle skirt. No matter which A-list client they work with, they’ve managed to embrace a distinct style of fashion—though the throughline is pretty awesome.
