WGA Awards: List of winners (live in updates)

2021 Writers Guild Awards is ongoing and at New York and Los Angeles.

Abbott Elementary Actress and comedian Janelle James hosts the Los Angeles ceremony, while comedian and actress Michelle Buteau (The Circle, Welcome to Buteaupia) will host the New York ceremony.

In her monologue, Bhutto urged Steven Spielberg, who was there, to make a film about “happy black men”; Spike Lee was also in the audience, He said he would co-direct. She also quipped that if Dave Chappelle meant “chasing trans people,” then he was “GOAT.”

James also took a stab at the lack of diversity in Hollywood. “White people have been telling me to my face that we’re taking all the writing jobs and that we’re a diverse workforce,” she said. “As you can see in this room tonight, they are right. There are more than of us.”

The Writers Guild is at
One of the last Hollywood associations to announce winners before Oscars .

Original and Adapted Screenplay categories each have three of this year’s Oscar nominees .

Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans and Tár( will be at WGA Awards and Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay.

and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Top Gun: Maverick and Women Talking

won Best Adapted Screenplay at the WGA Awards and Academy Awards.

There is no overlap between Documentary Screenplay nominations and Oscar Documentary nominations.

TV shows with multiple nominations include three nominations for The Bear, Severance and Better Call Saul and Double Nominees Hacks, Abbott Elementary, Andor and Bad Sisters .

As usual, the Writers Guild also presented honorable mentions at two ceremonies. In New York, Spike Lee will receive the Ian McLellan Hunter Career Achievement Award presented by John Turturro; Paul Sims ( What We Do in the Shadows, Atlanta, The Larry Sanders Show, NewsRadio

) will receive the Herb Sargent Award for Excellence in Comedy presented by Donald Glover; Penelope Koechl will receive the Richard B. The award was presented by Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, previous winner and WGAE Vice President for Film/TV/Streaming. In Los Angeles, She Said writer Rebecca Lenkiewick will receive the Paul Selvin Award; Charlie Kaufman will receive the Screenwriting Achievement Laureate; and creator and showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser (Living Single) will receive the Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement.

2021 As the Writers Guild Awards come out, there is speculation that the Guild’s lowest Wages may be a strike The basic agreement is currently set to expire on May 1. The association will begin negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) in March , last week shared with members its needs it hopes to address in such talks patterns or broad priorities , the deadline for submission of responses is Tuesday. Issues under consideration include standardized fees for movie theater premieres and streaming services, and greater regulation of AI writing. The association also wants to expand minimum standards for writers in film, television and new media; expand protections for writers who have worked on long-running short series; ”; “Ensuring appropriate screenwriter remuneration throughout pre-production, production and post-production of television dramas.” The association also wants to support its pension plan and health fund.

WGA East president Michael Winship said he felt “confident” when asked about upcoming negotiations on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony. “I think we have a really terrific negotiating committee this year, and a really good team — very skilled, very talented, very experienced,” Winship said. “They’re ready to go in and face our people, And dealing with all the new things that we have to deal with — streaming and other issues — and I’m pretty confident we’re going to have a successful negotiation.” Regarding a possible strike, he said: “I can’t make any predictions at the moment. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.”

James also touched on this topic in his monologue in Los Angeles. “There’s a sense of togetherness in the air tonight, isn’t there? Yes. I’m sure the rest of the negotiations will go well, but no matter what happens, we’re going to support each other, right?” she said. “If we decide to go further, we will do it together, and if we decide to use this downtime to make a movie starring Janelle James, who am I going to protest?”
