Yes, yes, if you’re buying a plan, it’s important to know the difference. DirecTV refers specifically to a satellite subscription, which requires a satellite dish and doesn’t use internet-based streaming. DirecTV Stream is the internet version where you can stream channels using your internet data plan and get easier access to apps like Netflix. The channel lineup is very similar, but you may encounter nuances, and satellite TV packages usually support more channels than the streaming version. Ultimate Edition – $105 per month (currently $85 for the first two months) : This includes everything from the Choice package, plus an additional 35 channels (140+), including stuff like the NHL Network and FXM, plus more on-demand programming (now up to 55,000). With this package, you get three months of free HBO Max (again, new subscribers only), Showtime, Starz, EPIX, and Cinemax.
Premier — $150 per person per month (currently $130 for the first two months) : The Premier plan, which has significantly increased prices, gives everyone access to streaming apps owned by AT&T, a subscription service. This includes HBO Max, Starz, Cinemax and Showtime, and you also get three months of free EPIX. You still have to pay for completely separate apps that don’t have an AT&T partnership, like Netflix or Hulu. The number of channels has also grown to over 150 and you can access a full list of over 65,000 on-demand programmes. You can also sign up for a free five-day trial as a new subscriber. Previously, DirecTV Stream required an extra fee for unlimited cloud storage to record TV shows. Now, unlimited cloud DVR storage is automatically included in every package. However, please note that additional taxes may apply to all plans, as may recurring discounts offered by AT&T. You also have to pay a monthly fee to use the AT&T set-top box.
