The Indianapolis Colts lost 27-26 to the Detroit Lions in a preseason game Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, with both teams gearing up for the 2022 season prepare.
Since most of the starting lineups had two combined workouts earlier in the week, we got a good idea of the depth of the lineup. Some of them are encouraging. Some of them are not so much.
Here’s what the Colts had to say after a 27-26 loss at Lucas Oil Stadium:
Frank Reich’s opening line
Frank Reich: “Two injuries to report. Brandon King has a hamstring and Kam (Kameron) Cline has a concussion. Ended up a very productive week. Really, what we just said in the locker room was that (we) liked where we were. I think this week we spent Had a really great week. Accomplished what we wanted on a competitive team. Got all these competitive reps all week, not just tonight, but all week, it felt like we were Put a lot of good stuff on tape. We’ll continue tomorrow. I’m excited about where we’re at. Lots of good situational work today. I think from the situation, some good things come out, and I think we’re reacting Good, we can learn something from it.”
Dezmon Patmon’s Confidence
Frank Reich: “He just looks confident, has the ball in his hands, plays with some confidence, runs good lines, plays, plays instinctively. Even The instinct to reach out, reach out, on long touchdowns, is also a good sign.”
Bernhard Raimann making progress
Frank Reich: “To the naked eye, I just thought he looked solid. Again, inside, I Need to watch the tape. I tend to watch more outside, but am very happy with his progress. Really happy with his progress. He has done a lot of work and feels like he has the right mindset to keep getting better. So, We will continue to evaluate his position.”
Sam Ehlinger is impressive
Frank Reich: “Sam was great. He was great in a couple of big games today with an early error or two, but that’s what he did. He Overcome a mistake and then the next drive came out, you know. A big game against (Mike) Strachan and a big game against Dezmon Patmon )’s scramble was a good pitch. It was shot from a cannon. So, Sam (Ehlinger) great performance. ”
Mike Strachan Hot
Frank Reich: “It’s huge. It seems to go from zero to sixty in one second. I was thinking a few weeks ago that I wasn’t even sure he would be ready to practice before the season opener. And then, all of a sudden, he recovered quickly, and the next thing you know he had a big touchdown in this game today. Thanks to Mike (Strachan) and our trainers. “
Dezmon Patmon on his big day
Dezmon Patmon: “Obviously every catcher wants to run 100 yards. I feel like as long as the games I play on the court give the coaching staff confidence and commitment that they can keep throwing the ball at me, I can go out and keep playing. So, it feels great. “
Ehlinger is just scratching the surface?
Sam Ehlinger: “Of course. Absolutely, without a doubt. All round, I’m just scratching the surface. It’s a two-year program – I’m battling a lot of neurological stuff. When you’re on the field and the chaos around you intensifies, naturally, when you say “throw the football,” you revert to the neural circuits in your brain that want you to do whatever. So, I’m fighting against what I’ve been doing for years and thousands of reps. So it will take about two years to break down this stuff. I definitely feel like I’ve improved on that and then on offense as well. I’m comfortable with offense and comfortable with defense. “
Ehlinger on the big day of his WR
Sam Ehlinger: “They did a great job. I know both are young and talented. It’s great to have Mike (Strachan) back, what a physical freak. Dez (Patmon) had a great day, he’s got the ball very hard, these two guys. Now that Mike’s back, he’s had a great week of training, Dez had a great camp, and it’s paid off in games. “
