Today WhatsApp announced the first launch of Call Links, a brand new feature that is pretty self-explanatory. You can create a link to a call, and people you share the link with can simply click or tap the link to jump to the call.
This works for anyone on WhatsApp, even if they’re not in your contacts – the main caveat here is that they must have WhatsApp themselves or they won’t be able to join your calls. That’s what it’s all about, but the fact that it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s not very useful.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, the call link is currently in the process of being rolled out, and the rollout could take days – or even an entire week. He also revealed that WhatsApp’s development team is currently testing secure encrypted video calls for up to 32 people, and more information on this is expected soon.
