WhatsApp has a new chat history transfer feature that simplifies the process of getting chat history and files on a new device without using cloud backup. With this new feature, users can grab a QR code containing the backup history on their old device and transfer it locally to their new phone via Wi-Fi Direct.
The new chat history recovery feature is still rolling out to Whats App Beta users and is currently only available for same OS transfers i.e. Android to Android and iOS to iOS. The process involves going into the Settings tab within WhatsApp –> Chat –> Chat Transfer, where you will see the new option (if available).
WhatsApp parent company Meta says chat history data is only shared between two devices and is fully encrypted in transit. It’s also handy if you have larger backups that don’t fit into your cloud storage
