2023 “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” On display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art May 5-July . The annual Met Gala provides the Costume Institute with a major source of funding for exhibitions, publishing, acquisitions, operations and capital improvements.
The exhibition will pay tribute to Lagerfeld’s unparalleled contribution to the world of fashion. “One thing I’m sure of is that we can’t do a traditional retrospective,” Andrew Bolton, curator at the Costume Institute’s Wendy Yu, told Vogue in September. “On the one hand, I think Karl would hate that. Although one aspect of him is that he’s a historicist, he’ll revisit themes in his work, but he’s always looking into the future in his own work—he Hate looking back.”
