White Sox vs. Buccaneers odds, predictions: Chicago tests red-hot Pittsburgh

We have White Sox vs. Buccaneers predictions as Chicago travels to Pittsburgh to start three games.

The Buccaneers fly high because they just walked into Fenway Park and swept the Red Sox. Meanwhile, the White Sox need to bounce back after losing two of three games against San Francisco. Lucas Giolito vs. Rich Hill is an interesting pitching matchup, although the former may have the edge. I also wonder if Pirates should return.

Moneyline: White Sox ( -134) vs. Pirates (+114) Spread: White Sox -1.5 (+126) vs. Pirates -1.5 (-152) Total: Over 8.5 (-105) | Below 8.5 (-115)Chicago White Sox ML (-134) Hill is at the bottom of his career at FanDuel Sportsbook Twilight years, it shows. All of his production is below 90 mph, and he relies mostly on a curved curveball and a snail’s pace fastball. Hill had a 4.27 ERA in 124 1/3 innings in his lone season with the Red Sox. However, he blew up in his first start as a Buccaneer, allowing three runs on three hits in five innings, including two home runs. Hill won’t post an ERA over 5.00 the rest of the season, but I could see him struggling again here. The White Sox mix lefties. They’ve been a top-five lineup against lefties for three straight seasons (according to wRC+), according to FanGraphs. With 51 appearances in this short season, the White Sox rank seventh among the best teams in MLB against left-handed pitchers (132 wRC+). San Francisco’s Alex Wood was strong against the White Sox on Thursday, but he has big league stuff to fall back on. Unfortunately, Hill won’t have that luxury on Friday. Meanwhile, Giolito is off to a solid start against the ever-dangerous Astros in 2023, allowing just two runs in five innings. He struck out six and walked just one, so his FIP is just 2.03. The Buccaneers had 15 points in a three-game sweep of Boston, but the Red Sox pitching was horrible and Fenway was a hyper-scoring environment. Guaranteed Rate Field is also a hitter’s park, but the Pirates’ offense should fall back from Boston to Chicago. The White Sox also have a bullpen advantage, not least because their top five relievers were all rested in Thursday’s rout. I like Pittsburgh’s David Bednar, but the Pirates are weak in the middle relief. Ultimately, I’m pinning my hopes on the rebounding performance of the White Sox and the disappointment of the Buccaneers, especially given the matchup angle. I got the White Sox ML (-134) at the FanDuel sportsbook, but I feel comfortable beating them to (-140).
