If you do want some non-Mexican food during your stay, Oliva Enoteca near Parque de Santa Ana is famous for its Get regulars fresh octopus risotto for homemade gnocchi, classic pasta and seafood with lemon. (As Apoala did to Calle before, Oliva heralds Calle 47 transformation of as a new area of interest in Merida). Other notable spots include Salón Gallos for its bars, galleries and cinemas showing classic films, while Pan & Køf.feé and smaller newcomer Soco are recommended for their freshly baked sourdough and pastries in the morning.

Your culture in Merida Journeys can be most simply divided into two categories: yes, either go back in time, or follow the present. Speaking of well-preserved Gilded Age homes, don’t miss the Quinta Montes Molina, the Paseo de Montejo mansions since they came from 1919. A tour around the light-filled mansion is less a museum visit than a glimpse of a lived-in family home filled with objects from around the world that have been passed down through generations. On the expansive grounds, a soon-to-be restaurant and cultural center is nearing completion, with the aim of making Quinta a hub for contemporary artists and antiques fans alike.
