Will Smith hosts 'Epic' screening of 'Liberation' with Rihanna, Dave Chappell and Tyler Perry as guests

Chappelle’s performance follows his co-led stand-up comedy tour with Chris Rock, during which both comedians slapped Oscar and made fun of Smith during the scuffle.

Apple presents Antoine Fuqua’s in Washington DC Emancipation After three weeks, Will Smith starring for Intimate Crowd screenings in Los Angeles, including Rihanna and boyfriend Rocky as soon as possible, Tyler Perry , Kenya Barris , music producer Corey Smyth, celebrity stylist Fawn Boardley and screenwriter and producer Esa Lewis et al.

Aside from Smith himself, probably the most notable guest in the room was Dave Chappell .

The superstar comedian was recently slapped by Smith on stage at the Oscars for a sold-out Eurogame with co-headline Chris Rock field trip. A slap seen around the world led to Smith, who eventually won an Oscar for Best Actor 30 was banned from the show for years.

In stand-up comedy in the months following the Oscars, Rock didn’t shy away from addressing the issue, though most of his comments were relatively brief. However, just last month at a gig in the UK, both Rock and Chappelle brought up the subject , Rock said, “The bastard hit me for a bullshit joke, the best joke I’ve ever told.” Chappelle also took aim at Smith , saying he “impressed 730 the perfect man for years.”

While it’s unclear how they got together for this special screening, several attendees shared on Instagram how special it was, with Smith calling it an “epic night.” !!” Barris was a little more open, posting “This evening is really for the books! An amazing and talented group of friends got together to witness true art.”


He continued: “The conversation that followed was that we as creatives Hope for the industry.” He credits Chappelle for hosting the show, and in a photo the comedian can be seen talking to other guests, presumably in a post-film conversation.

“I’m still haunted by liberating ,” Perry wrote. “It’s really powerful, moving and captivating. The conversation with this group after that is legendary. Thank you Will Smith for the preview!”

Based on a true story, Liberation follows Peter (Smith), an enslaved man fleeing his plantation in search of his family, outwit cold-blooded hunters and survive the Louisiana Swamp along the way.

Fuqua Director and Executive Producer Liberation Screenplay by William N. Collage. The film is produced by Smith and Jon Mone via Westbrook Studios, Joey McFarland via McFarland Entertainment, and Todd Black via Escape Artists. Chris Brigham, James Lassiter, Heather Washington, Cliff Roberts, Glen Basner and Scott Greenberg serve as executive producers.

The film will be released in select theaters on December 2, before coming to Apple TV+ on December 9.
