More and more designers are giving up gorgeous inspiration stories, ( I start to imagine a century in the English woods Woodland fairies…) instead of designing clothes they want, mostly because, well, they want to. Yigal Azrouël takes this approach for fall 2023 and focuses on leather, cashmere and wool pieces that will have a place in your wardrobe. “I don’t think anybody needs another dress,” says Azrouël.
Leather has always been a staple at Azrouël, and this season, that inclination is reflected in iridescent, military-inspired trench coats, leather and crepe evening gowns, and paper bag waist-length skirts , and jackets that double as dresses, among others. Though the collection is almost entirely black, the reversible raglan shearling is the brightest of the teddy-brown collections. Meanwhile, mesh dresses and tops broke through the heaviness of materials and palettes. That said, the true allure of this collection lies in its armor-like quality: the indestructible leather 2023.
